CS Verma, the acting Chairman of NMDC, said the expression of interest (EoI) floated by the firm for offering 50 percent stake in its proposed 3 million tone per annum (mn tpa) steel plant received response from only two companies. Steel Authority of India (SAIL) and Rastriya Inspat Nigam are the only two bidders for NMDC's 50 per cent stake in the upcoming steel plant in Chhattisgarh.

For the Multi-sectoral Development Programme (MsDP) in minority-concentrated areas, the Union government last week approved a proposal to make blocks and village clusters as units of planning. After restructuring, the MsDP would be implemented in 710 identified Minority Concentration Blocks (MCBs) and 66 towns/ cities falling in 196 districts of 26 states/UTs of the country, against 90 minority concentrations districts (MCDs) at present in 20 states.

Cement prices in India are likely to come down on sluggish demand from construction sector for a short term. The industrial commodity witnessed a Rs 25 a bag (50 kgs each) fall in prices on m-o-m basis in West Bengal as against Rs and Rs 10 a bag in Vidarbha (Maharashtra) region and elsewhere in the country respectively. Demand of the construction raw material generally declines in the lean monsoon season when most of running overhangs.

Jindal Power and IL&FS Energy Development Company have individually evinced interest to partner NMDC in setting up a 2X250 mw thermal power plant in Uttar Pradesh at an estimated cost of Rs 2,000 crore. Jindal Power and IL&FS Energy Development Company have shown interest to be a joint venture partner of NMDC for its proposed power plant in Uttar Pradesh.

The Haryana government is trying for its own captive coal block to meet the coal requirement of its power plants in the state. The State-owned Haryana Power Generation Corporation (HPGCL) has submitted multiple applications to the Union Coal Ministry for allotment of coal block in Chhattisgarh or Madhya Pradesh for the existing and future thermal plants in the state.
