Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation would soon finish the first phase of the Karnataka Urban Development and Coastal Environmental Management Project (KUDCEMP). In order to secure raw material for its Visvesvaraya Iron and Steel Plant at Bhadravathi, state-run steel maker SAIL wants to mine the 140 hectare of area in North-Eastern Block range in Bellary, Karnataka. The largest steel producer of the country has reportedly requested Karnataka government to fast-track the process of granting iron ore mining lease for the area. Even as the Supreme Court allowed mining in category A and B mines in Karnataka, the Director of Mines and Geology of the state government recommended premature closure of 14 mining leases falling under these two categories. In a letter to the Commerce and Industries ministry of the state government, the Director of Mines and Geology recommended premature closure of these mines noting that they too have committed “serious irregReal estate body CREDAI requested government to promote housing particularly affordable segment by scrapping the floor space index (FSI) restrictions and allowing vertical buildings. Media reports say that contractors are not enthusiastic to take up upgradation of roads planned at Rs 72 crore by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). The work comprises upgradation of seven major roads, including Residency and Richmond Road in the heart of the Indian IT City. Although BBMP and Karnataka government are eager to provide quality roads in the city through 'TenderSure' initiative by integrating all the civic agencies, there are no takers for the project.

Karnataka government would soon finalize all preparations for the proposed drinking water project in Yettinahole and take up the tender process. The project involves constructing water reservoirs and dams at an estimated cost of Rs 7,300 crore. This information was given by the leader of the House in the state legislative council recently. The Karnataka government is to bring pressure on the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to complete the signal free elevated road to Bangalore International Airport (BIA) at the earliest. Members in the State Legislature on June 11 raised a hue and cry over the inordinate delay in completing the elevated stretch on the 22-kilometre BIA Road.

In Mysore, Kuppanna park near Harding circle and Cheluvamba park near Akashavani in the city will be lit up by unconventional source of energy. Karnataka Renewable Energy Development (KREDL) has decided to install solar panels at the parks. Data from the Department of Mines and Geology (DMG), Karnataka shows mining firms sold 45,544,000 million tonne (mn t) iron ore out of 77,268,000 mn t earmarked for e-auction as on May 18 in the state.
