For building 42 modern silos or foodgrain storage facilities countrywide, the Food Corporation of India (FCI) will soon invite bids, FCI said on June 17. In a pre-bidding meeting organised recently, FCI received 'overwhelming' response from the private stakeholders for creation of modern storage silos, it said in a statement.

To cut the cost of solar power in the country the Union government is planning to roll out large megawatt size solar power projects. The Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) is planning to roll out 500 mw and above large size solar power projects, said the Ministry's Joint Secregary Tarun Kapoor.

Under the Centre's debt restructuring scheme, Tamil Nadu has become the first state to issue bonds worth Rs 6,144 crore in the first phase. With this, through faced initial hiccups, the Centre's debt restructuring scheme for power distribution companies has taken off.

In Indore, the Madhya Pradesh Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan performed the bhoomi pujan (groundbreaking ceremony) for an 80-feet wide road from Marimata square to the railway overbridge -- a distance of roughly 2.5 km -- on Wednesday. The MP Road Development Corporation is providing Rs 22.36 crore for the road widening work, expected to be completed within three months.

According to Tarun Kapoor, Joint Secretary in Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) the government is planning to roll out large megawatt size solar power projects in the order of 500 mw and above. The government wants to give a boost to its efforts to bring down the cost of solar power in India, he added. Several states have already rolled out mega-sized solar power projects, its needs to be done at central level too, he added.

As scarcity of coal continued to haunt electricity generation, India witnessed a peak power shortage of over 9,000 mw in April this year. Peak power deficit, or shortage in electricity supply when the demand is at its highest, stood at 6.9 per cent or 9,020 mw in the month of April, according to latest data by the Central Electricity Autority (CEA).
