The Mokokchung district administration in Nagaland has approved an alternative road from Mokokchung to Dimapur which would pass through Mangmetong village in Mokokchung district, Sanis in Wokha district and to Dimapur. The project was approved in the monthly meeting of Mokokchung District Planning and Development Board held on June 7.

For improving the North-eastern region's power transmission network, Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCI) has signed an agreement with six states, including Assam and Manipur. The total cost for the project has been estimated at Rs 8,150.07 crore and the World Bank has agreed to lend a major portion of the sum.

The Union government on May 23 approved the 4-laning of Dimapur-Kohima National Highway in Nagaland at a total cost of Rs 1,089.87 crore. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved the implementation of the project of 4-laning of the Dimapur-Kohima section from 124.1 km to 172.9 km of NH-39, Finance Minister P Chidambaram said in Delhi. This project is under the special Accelerated Road Development Programme (SARDP-NE) in North Eastern Region, he said.

In Nagaland, the Lotha Lower Range Public Organisation (LLRPO), Bhandari, has expressed the need to construct a foot hill road from Dimapur to Tizit (Mon), stating it will be lifeline for Naga general public and particularly the neighbouring districts of Dimapur, Wokha, Mokokchung, Longleng, and Mon. Stating it had been vocal for the last four years regarding the issue, LLRPO urged upon all the newly elected legislatures, particularly of Dimapur, Wokha, Mokokchung, Longleng, and Mon to constitute a committee to look into the matter at the earliest.

In Tripura, the first unit of the 363 mw combined cycle gas power plant at Palatana is all set for commercial generation from June 15. President Pranab Mukherjee will inaugurate the project on June 21 and dedicate it to the nation. With successful generation of full potential power at the plant last week, ONGC Tripura Power Company (OTPC) on May 18 announced it would be opened for commercial operations.

For undertaking home loans business in the North-Eastern part of India, Life Insurance Corporation of India Housing Finance (LIC Housing Finance) is planning to float a separate subsidiary or special purpose vehicle (SPV). The second largest standalone housing finance company of the country has hit upon this strategy as local laws in some of the North-Eastern States do not allow creation of a mortgage to convey a property as security to a lender against a loan.

In Nagaland, Dimapur's Deputy Commissioner N Hushili Sema has stated that the survey works for compensation of land and structure etc in regard to the extension of a 4 lane road in National Highway 39 from Patkai Bridge to Piphema has already been carried out by the departments concerned. A press note by the Deputy Commissioner stated that this was done in continuation of the earlier order issued on December 14, 2012.

A Greenpeace report says that 22 out of 29 states in India have failed to meet their Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) targets which lead to loss of more than 25 per cent electricity that was expected to be generated from renewable energy sources in 2012. The recently released report, ‘Moving Ahead with Renewables: Leaders and Laggards,’ has been prepared by Greenpeace with its research partner Infraline Energy.
