The country's biggest hydropower plant, the Nathpa Jhakri power project, in Himachal Pradesh was forced to shut down following torrential rains and heavy silting in the Sutlej river. At a meeting of the cabinet headed by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, it was decided to clear the policy for Compounding or Regularization of Unauthorized Colonies or Buildings. For building 42 modern silos or foodgrain storage facilities countrywide, the Food Corporation of India (FCI) will soon invite bids, FCI said on June 17. In a pre-bidding meeting organised recently, FCI received 'overwhelming' response from the private stakeholders for creation of modern storage silos, it said in a statement.

Flood caused high silt formation in Sutlej river has resulted in shutting of two major hydro power projects in Himachal Pradesh on June 17, leading to a power crisis in Punjab, Haryana and Delhi. The country's biggest hydropower plant, the Nathpa-Jhakri power project and Jaypee Karcham Hydro Corp's 1,000 mw Karcham Wangtoo Hydroelectric Project, both in Kinnaur district, have been closed since June 16 due to sudden rise in silt level.

Jammu and Kashmir Governor NN Vohra signed the Ordinance which would allow state government to acquire land for the Rs 880 crore Bhatinda-Srinagar gas pipeline project. The project, which involves laying of the 750-kilometer gas pipeline from Bhatinda in Punjab to Srinagar via Jammu, is scheduled for completion in three years. Gujarat State Petronet Limited (GSPL) received contract for the project in June 2011

The Punjab Cabinet on June 15 approved the policy for regularisation of unauthorised colonies and buildings under the Punjab Laws (Special Provisions) Act, 2013.
This would be a big relief to about 5,000 colonies and two lakh (0.2 million) individual plot holders or building owners across the state. The policy focuses on bringing all unauthorised colonies/buildings into the planning framework and to regularise development, which would further facilitate the smooth implementation of master plans across the state to ensure urban development in a holistic manner.

Concession agreements have been signed with the authorities concerned for three road projects in Rajasthan, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, IL&FS Transportation Networks has stated in a communication to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). The road projects are: Kiratpur Ner Chowk section of NH 21 of 90.175 km in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.

P2 Solar Inc (formerly Natco International, Inc.) has acquired its second renewable energy project Tibba in India, through its subsidiary Jagat Energy, for an undisclosed amount. P2 Solar is a Canada-based clean tech energy firm. Last month, the firm acquired a solar project near Rajgarh in Ludhiana. The latest project is a 500 KW mini-hydro facility, located immediately downstream from P2’s first project in Rajgarh.

The Supreme Court on June 12 stayed an order of Punjab and Haryana High Court that had asked the NHAI to take over the 291 Km Panipat-Jalandhar highway project from the project concessionaire Soma Isolux NH One Tollway Private Limited as it failed to complete the project by 2012. A bench of justices Gyan Sudha Misra and Madan B Lokur also issued notices to the Centre, Haryana and National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) on the plea of the project concessionaire and fixed the matter for hearing on July 23.
