For building 42 modern silos or foodgrain storage facilities countrywide, the Food Corporation of India (FCI) will soon invite bids, FCI said on June 17. In a pre-bidding meeting organised recently, FCI received 'overwhelming' response from the private stakeholders for creation of modern storage silos, it said in a statement.

Flood caused high silt formation in Sutlej river has resulted in shutting of two major hydro power projects in Himachal Pradesh on June 17, leading to a power crisis in Punjab, Haryana and Delhi. The country's biggest hydropower plant, the Nathpa-Jhakri power project and Jaypee Karcham Hydro Corp's 1,000 mw Karcham Wangtoo Hydroelectric Project, both in Kinnaur district, have been closed since June 16 due to sudden rise in silt level.

Uttar Pradesh government-appointed panel has proposed to implement the Rs 1,800 crore metro rail project in Lucknow by securing 50 percent funding from the central government. The state government appointed a high-level committee headed by Chief Secretary Jawed Usmani to work out the details of the project

As India is facing massive gas shortage, almost all the gas-based power projects in the country are functioning at an average capacity of just about 24 per cent. At least 18,000 mw gas-based power projects which do not buy gas via APM (Accelerated Price Mechanism) are running at about 24 percent PLF (plant load factor), said an official with the Union Power Ministry.

In Bihar's Bhagalpur, operation of air travel services will be resumed after after 35 years when Skyfisher Airways resumes its 'Air-Auto' operations in the first week of July. Bhagalpur is one of the oldest divisions in Bihar. For the purpose, the Directorate of Civil Aviation, government of Bihar have already sanctioned Rs 1.33 crore.

The proposed metro line extension projects in the national capital region (NCR) is likely to be considered for approval at a board meeting of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) scheduled today. Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation (UPPCL) has pegged additional revenues of Rs 200 crore a month in the light of substantial increase in power rates from June 10. The State power utility is in the red, with losses of about Rs 25,000 crore, said UPPCL Managing Director AP Mishra.
