To set up a new major port at Sagar Island in West Bengal, the Government of India has taken a decision to approach JICA for a soft loan of Rs 4715 crore. The loan amount would be used for dredging of 58 million cum of approach channel which is Rs 1,223 crore and Rs 3,492 crore for rail road connectivity including construction of bridge over river Muriganga. The estimated cost of the Sagar Project is Rs. 11,900 crore.
