In Andhra Pradesh, the four power distribution companies (discoms) together will push for a burden of about Rs 12,000 crore to be passed on to consumers in the form of increased tariff, a rise of 15 to 20 per cent depending on the categories.
The discoms that are mired in debts and losses of over Rs 27,000 crore are once again falling short of revenue for the next year.
The major deficit so far is primarily due to the State government’s refusal to provide the full subsidy required for the free power scheme.
