With financial assistance of the World Bank, a total of 130 cyclone shelters are being built in Andhra Pradesh, 17 of them in Visakhapatnam district. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) announced this in Visakhapatnam on October 17 after visiting the cyclone-hit areas in the state.
The NDMA, while appreciating the AP administration for its safety measures during the cyclone disaster, stated that a lot remains to be done as disaster management and relief and rehabilitation have to be done at the State level, he said.
It suggested the State government to draw up State-specific and district-specific disaster management plans.
