Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on May 25 inaugurated a bridge on Aie river at Khagrabari in Chirang district. The 1.12-km bridge is the longest bridge constructed by the State Works Department. The bridge was a long-cherished dream of the people of northen part of Chirang district. Now, the entire northern part of the district has been connected with Bongaigaon and Kajalgaon.
The bridge was constructed under the Non Lapsable Central Phool of Resource (NLCPR) at a cost of Rs 78.83 crore. The construction began on January 21, 2011 and its stipulated date of completion was July 20, 2013. But it was completed on May 25. Gogoi said the completion of the bridge is not only a success of BTC but also the state as a whole. He said trade relations with Bhutan will get a boost because of the bridge.
