In the forthcoming union budget, C Sambashiva Reddy, Chairman, Karnataka Vikasa Grameena Bank expects incentives for investments in irrigation and attracting agro-based industries at Hubli Dharwad region of Karnataka.
Despite increasing its spending on agriculture, the government should involve private players in a large scale by assuring definite concessions, Reddy said. Such moves will benefits farmers largely, which can stop their migration to urban areas and keep them in agriculture, he added.
Member of Parliament from Dharwad Prahlad Joshi said expects increased government spending on building cold storages across the region to save farmers from distress sale of agriculture produce. Increased agriculture productivity will certainly pave the way for setting agro-processing industries and automatically agricultural share in GDP will increase, he said.
Joshi gave suggestions to the government to evaluate the success of plans and projects implemented focusing on agriculture and farmers.
