As the Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan took more initiative over the redevelopment of Dharavi tenement revamp project in Mumbai, the State agencies are now given a five-month deadline to complete tender process for the project. The project has been delayed for the past nine years.
Last week, Chavan gave an in-principle nod to the project and the Dharavi Redevelopment Authority (DRA) has now fixed a deadline to complete the tendering process within the next five months for four sectors in the plan. Of the five sectors, sector 5 has been assigned to the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) which has already started work.
The State has been facing problems like opposition from the slum dwellers and land acquisition in the project.
