In Goa, 3.9 million tonne of iron ore, out of the total 15 million tonne, lying state-wide has been found without proper documentation, the State government told the Supreme Court. This has raisen suspicion that the iron ore might have been extracted illegally.
The government said that 1.22 m tonne of ore was found without any disclosure in the monthly or yearly returns (of the mining companies). In addition to this approximately 2.68 m tonne of iron ore has also been found lying at different places, the government said.
