To identify accident-prone locations on Pune-Bangalore highway and suggest road-safety measures for the same, a team of safety consultants from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will inspect the highway sections on November 12.
The proposed inspection follows the accident in which four advertisement professionals from Pune lost their lives on November 2 after their car plunged into the Nira river near Shirval on the highway. Absence of barricades across a 15-ft gap between the up and down traffic bridges across the river has been cited as one of the reasons for the accident.
NHAI officials said that the safety consultants will look into the need for barricades at this site. There are some other locations on the Pune-Satara stretch on the highway where barricading is necessary. The safety consultants will put forth their suggestions and NHAI will implement road safety measures in a uniform manner at all locations.
