PPT proposes satellite port

In Odisha, a satellite port has been proposed by Paradip Port Trust (PPT) at either Jatadhari or Bahuda. The proposal has been put forth the State government by the Trust.    This was stated by the Paradip Port Trust Chairman SS Mishra in Bhubaneswar on September 24. The State government has asked the PPT to submit a concept paper detailing a joint venture mechanism, said Mishra, adding, satellite ports are required for creating additional capacity and future expansion.    With a capacity to handle 106 million tonne (mt) cargo a year the PPT has plans to increase it by 35 mt in three phases. While it handled 56.5-mt cargo last year, the trust targeted 66 mt this year.
