Domestic air traffic up in India

There is an increase of 7.25 per cent in air passengers in India in July. Reversing the trend of the previous months, India's domestic air carriers flown a total of 48.66 lakh passengers, compared to 45.37 lakh passengers flown in the same period last year, show the latest data released by the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

Having flown 14.45 lakh passengers in July, IndiGo Airlines stood the market leader, with Jet Airways taking second spot, carrying 9.59 lakh passengers. The position of Jet Airways will improve further if the passenger carriage of JetLite, its subsidiary which carried 2.74 lakh passengers in July, is also considered. The two airlines, however, report separate passenger carriage to the DGCA.

National carrier Air India carried 9.34 lakh passengers in July while SpiceJet carried 8.50 lakh passengers and Go Air carried 4.04 lakh passengers.
