Redevelopment: Delhi plans new housing complexes

In Delhi, as the government focusing on redevelopment of residential colonies, more housing blocks for senior employees are now being constructed or planned at prime locations such as Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Marg. To meet a shortage of housing for government employees, the Ministry of Urban Development has taken up redevelopment of government colonies, transforming them into multi-storeyed residential towers equipped with modern amenities.

On DDU Marg, the project to construct 108 Type-VII flats is in the proposal stage and the building sanction plan has been sent to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi for approval, officials of Central Public Works Department (CPWD) said. These flats will be allotted to additional and special secretaries. The complex will come up on a 26,492-sqm plot.

The scheme includes four blocks, two of which will be 10-storeyed structures and the other two eight-storeyed. Each flat will have four bedrooms with attached toilet, one guest room, drawing-cum-dining room, kitchen and two servants' quarters, a CPWD official said. These flats will also be equipped with green features such as rainwater harvesting, solar water heating and sewage treatment system,' the official said.

The CPWD is already constructing 104 Type-VI and 140 Type-V flats opposite the proposed site for the Type-VII flats. The project, estimated to cost Rs 135 crore, is likely to be complete in March 2014. The project is being developed on 35,358 sqm and comprises seven blocks of 8-10 storeys each. Of these, four blocks will have Type-V flats and three blocks Type-VI flats. The Type-V flats will have three bedrooms, while Type-VI, four bedrooms,' an official said.
