Upgradation of Punjab h'ways into 4/6 lanes at Rs 3,080 cr

In Punjab, highway widening into 4 lanes and 6 lanes is in full swing on 398.9 km. With its earmarked Rs 3,080 crore budget for the purpose, the Punjab government has targeted to achieve the highways widening into four lanes and six lanes of all national and State highways by January 2016.    The State government on October 5 said in Chandigarh that the distinction of world-class connectivity would help Punjab to attract more investment and ease traffic on the roads in the coming years.    The State has already converted 230 km of national highways into six lanes in the last five years at a cost of Rs 1,460 crore, the government said.
