A new port in Karnataka's Honnavar has been planned by the State government at a cost of Rs 600 crore under the public private partnership (PPP) model. Foundation stone to the port will be laid in November next.    And the State government also plans to build a protection wall along its coastline at a cost of Rs 950 crore. The wall along the coast will be built under the Asian Development Bank assistance to offer permanent protection against recurring sea erosion every year. The wall is being built at places like Ullal in Dakshina Kannada district, for which tenders have been floated.    The State government has planned to take up many new schemes under Inland Water Transportation department and purchase latest mechanised boats, build proper shelters for public use.    The State Minister for Textiles Baburao Chinchansoor said this at the conference of state ministers of textiles in New Delhi on October 9 and added that the government has received another suggestion from Jindal for setting up a captive port at an investment of Rs 500 crore.    The proposal is under the consideration of the State government, he said.
