Land owners affected by the Navi Mumbai international airport are demanding to allot developed land as compensation and not cash as suggested by the land acquisition Bill, which was recently cleared by Parliament. According to the 'Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Bill, 2012,' project-affected people are entitled to get cash compensation of Rs 40 lakh per acre.
The landowners made it clear in this regard last week to the management of City and Industrial Development Corp (Cidco), the nodal agency for the airport project. Even the Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan IS in favour of land compensation instead of cash, the landowners told the Cidco.
Cidco stated that all efforts were on to reach a consensus on the issue.
