Local administration of Thiruvananthapuram district in Kerala would extend the sewerage network in coastal wards.
The Muttathara sewerage treatment plant was recently commissioned in the district and the local councillors want the sewerage network to be extended in coastal wards as well.
At a recent meeting of district officials, authorities fixed a timeline for the pending work indicated by councillors of the coastal wards that lay near the treatment plant.
The meeting was attended by officials of the city Corporation Councillors, Kerala Water Authority, the Kerala Sustainable Urban Development Project, and Principal Secretary of the Local Self Government James Varghese.
For the construction of a compound wall, local authority would complete the tender process in 15 days.
During the meeting, councillors also raised a point on the management of residual sludge. KSUDP officials said they had a drier unit in place, but there was no clarity regarding where and in what manner the dried sludge would be transported to.
