The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is now planning expansion of roads facing traffic congestion in the city after taking up road widening works in the core city of erstwhile Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad area.
The Corporation has decided to widen the 2 km stretch between Uppal crossroads and Peerzadiguda kaman to 150 ft from the existing 70 ft. As many as 170 properties are likely to be affected due to the road-widening exercise. Fifteen properties would be bulldozed completely, while the rest would be affected partially in order to carve out right of way.
Officials at GHMC said that the Warangal state highway expansion, which was going on for the past two years, would be completed soon. As per the master plan, Uppal crossroads to Peerzadiguda kaman should be widened to 200 ft.
As many shops are getting affected, the road widening would be confined to only 150ft to minimise the number of properties that need to be acquired, GHMC city planner (East Zone), K Upender Reddy, told a leading newspaper.
