ERPC seeks coal sampling at both end

Media reports indicate that Eastern Regional Power Committee (ERPC) would file a petition with the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) seeking sampling of coal at both party's end instead of joint sampling at the loading site.

It is learnt that power plants in the country decided to  are against the coal sampling at the loading site of Coal India (CIL).

Power producers feel that if sampling is done at the loading site, quality would be far less than certified quality owing to various issues, including mafia control despite having own officials.

Joint sampling by a third party agency was proposed by the CIL for coal quality. The coal miner has begun the process to engage an agency.

In a compromise formula with NTPC, Coal India has agreed not to calculate the quantity supplied for sake of incentive for all coal calorific value below 3,100 Kcal.
