To build a new port near Haldia in West Bengal, the Calcutta Port Trust on September 24 gave a contract to a consortium of city-based Concast Group and Hyundai Engineering of Korea. The new facility, planned to be operational in 30 months, is coming up at 10 kilometres north of the Haldia port.
Construction of the new port (near Haldia) will restore the investors’ confidence on Haldia port, PS Kahlon, Chairman of the CPT. The new port will also arrest the possible flight of cargo from Bengal to ports of neighbouring states, he added.
