India to tie-up with Germany for transmission of power

Union Power Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia is in Germany to discuss early finalisation of an agreement with the European nation which will provide support for setting up Green Energy Corridors for transmission of power. The aim is to supply 30,000 mw of clean power (wind and solar) to the national grid by 2020.    

Under the agreement, Germany has committed to provide an assistance of Euro 1 billion to India. The statement said that the Green Energy Corridors will enable evacuation of over 30,000 mw of renewable energy generated from wind and solar power during the 12th FiveYear Plan in India into the national grid, for which Germany has committed to provide developmental and technical assistance of Euro 1 billion.    

Detailed discussions were held on the early finalisation of the Green Energy Corridors and its implementation. The minister is leading a high-level delegation to Germany seeking to obtain a first-hand perspective of the overall energy situation in Germany and the efforts being made for a dramatic shift towards renewable energy, the official statement said.    P>The Minister has had detailed discussions with Germany’s Minister of State for Economic Co-operation & Development Gudrun Kopp on the implementation of the Joint Declaration of Intent on Establishment of Green Energy Corridors. This declaration was signed during Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s visit to Berlin last month.
