Limited funds to repair Jessore Road in Kolkata

To repair Jessore Road in Kolkata, the West Bengal government has added Rs 2.13 crore of its contribution to National Highways Authority of India's (NHAI) share of Rs 1.3 crore. Media reports say the condition of the road is in a pathetic condition. Repair work would most likely start early next week, though there’s no telling if rain might force a postponement, officials concerned said.

With the amount sanctioned only patch work could be taken up on the road, officials concerned said. The State PWD is yet to employ a contractor for the work. The minimum requirement per kilometre is Rs 60 lakh but the road from the airport’s No. 2.5 Gate to Barasat would need to be repaired with a budget of around Rs 19.36 lakh per kilometre.
