Kolkata Port Trust has started transloading operations at Kanika Sands. It's a deep-drafted location in the Bay of Bengal. Last Wednesday, coal unloading started from MV Sapphire, a large bulk carrier. The ship is carrying 72,500 tonne of coal for Farakka power plant of NTPC Ltd. The transloader is basically a large vessel with cranes and other equipment. The transloader can be sailed and anchored at a desired location.
