MMRDA to build flyover to link BKC to Eastern H'way

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has once again adopted the plan to build a 1.6-km elevated road from Bandra-Kurla Complex to the Eastern Express Highway. MMRDA had abandoning the project three years ago.

The elevated road or flyover, once completed, will reduce travel time between the end points from the present 45 minutes to 15 minutes, officials said. It will lessen traffic congestion on eastern and western express highways, Sion-Dharavi Road, Lal Bahadur Shastri Road, and all importantly strengthen the connectivity between the city's eastern and western parts.

MMRDA Commissioner Rahul Asthana said that the Authority is reviving the plan and taking help of consultants to align the BKC ramp in such a way that it does not create jams even in future. It should also facilitate easy movement of vehicles towards, and coming from, WEH and the sea link. The six-lane elevated road will begin close to the MMRDA office in BKC, stretch over Mithi River (near Maharashtra Nature Park) and over railway lines, and end at Eastern Express Highway (EEH) near Chunabhatti and Somaiya Ground.

Officials said the flyover will offer connectivity to LBS Road and benefit motorists on both sides of the EEH.
