Madras High Court bench in Madurai has been moved by retail giant 'Big Bazaar' and sought direction to the Madurai local planning authority (LPA) to remove the seal which was put on its complex situated in Kalavasal in Madurai. The member secretary of Madurai LPA Anshul Misra who is also the district collector of Madurai, visited the complex on May 9 and sealed the entire complex of Big Bazaar as the complex (stilt + six floors) was constructed by violating the building norms.
Future Value Retail's Deputy Manager, Legal (south zone) NK Ashok has filed a writ petition in the court seeking relief from collector's action. In the petition, it was stated that the building was taking on lease from one Jeyam Velmurugan Associate of Madurai in January 19, 2010.
And it was assured by the land owner that the entire building was constructed according to the approved plan and that there was no deviation or violation of any rules in it. Besides, the company has engaged more than 200 employees and has stocks to an extent of Rs 3 crore, the petitioner contended.
