The Golden Peacock Environment Management Award for 2012 has been won by Tata Power’s Jojobera thermal power station at Jamshedpur in Jharkhand.
The award will be presented in New Delhi during the 14th World Congress on Environment Management on July 7-8 July. According to the company’s environmental statement to the Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board for FY2011, the Jojobera unit consumed 690 kg of coal per megawatt hour, down from the previous year’s 720 kg/MWH.
The company stated that it set up a brick pilot unit to use fly ash. The bricks and fly ash pots were utilised inside the power plant. It also took measures to conserve energy within the six acre plant area, undertook tree plantation and introduced a green manufacturing index.
