The Union government has asked Tamil Nadu government to provide information about housing projects with investments of Rs 1,000 crore and above. Sources in Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation that the Ministry had asked Tamil Nadu government to provide the details so that a nation-wide database can be prepared.    

This comes in the wake of a new Cabinet Committee on Investment (CCI) being constituted to monitor fast track approvals or clearances with regard to large projects in infrastructure and manufacturing. The sources said that the committee would primarily focus on public, private and public private partnership having investments of Rs 1,000 crore or more that were pending on account of delay in clearances, approvals, linkages or land acquisition.    

Interestingly, the Tamil Nadu Housing Board (TNHB) is developing over 5,922 houses at a cost of Rs 1,530 crore this year. Besides, the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board (TNSCB) is set to complete the on-going construction of over 18,055 tenements and start work on 12,845 more units at a cost of Rs 1,936 crore.    

In the last two years, the government has allocated a total of Rs 1,000 crore under the Chennai Mega City Development Mission and Rs 1,500 crore under the Integrated Urban Development Mission for infrastructure.
