Tata Hitachi to invest Rs 200 cr in R&D

At its Kharagpur plant in West Bengal, the  Tata Hitachi Construction Machinery Company will invest around Rs 200 crore on research and development (R&D) and upgradation work. The company hopes the new investments will help it tide over the dependence on imported materials and improve profitability.    Tata Hitachi Construction Machinery Company is a joint venture between Tata Motors and Japan’s Hitachi Construction Machinery.    Currently, imports account for at least 50 per cent of the components manufactured at its three plants — Kharagpur, Jamshedpur (Jharkand) and Dharward (Karnataka). The facilities have a combined capacity of 15,000 units a year.
