The Union Coal Minister, Sriprakash Jaiswal recently had a detailed review of availability of coal blocks allocation files in a meeting with senior officials of Ministries of Coal, Power, Steel Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion and Chairman of CIL and CMD of CMPDIL.
The Minister directed them to constitute teams in their respective Ministries/Departments to locate the relevant documents/file at the earliest. Shri Jaiswal directed them to make all out efforts to locate these documents to facilitate the ongoing investigations.
He said that the weekend holidays should be utilized for this purpose. He directed Secretary (Coal) to review the matter on September 10, 2013. The Minister of Coal had earlier constituted an Inter-Ministerial Committee under the Chairmanship of Additional Secretary (Coal) to locate the documents requisitioned by CBI. The Committee has held five meetings till date.
The Ministry of Coal has also constituted five search teams including those for Coal India Ltd. (Kolkata and Delhi) and CMPDIL at Ranchi. The Supreme Court on August, 29, 2013 had directed CBI to furnish a comprehensive list of documents/files/ information which are yet to be receive from the Government and had given two weeks time to the Government to make available the requisitioned documents.
The lists of these documents have been given to the Ministry of Coal by CBI on 2nd and 4th September, 2013.
