Bangladesh will launch its biggest coal-based power plant in a joint venture with India near Sundarbans on November 22. The project, to be built at a cost of 1.5 billion, would not have any damaging effects on the environment in the world's largest mangrove forest Sundarbans.
The 1,320 megawatt plant will come up at Rampal, near Sundarbans. On the environmentalists' protest against the project, the Bangladesh government has said that it is implementing the plant work in the interests of the people.
