The picturesque Mysore-Nanjangud road has turned dangerous and it is claiming lives of vehicle drivers too often. But the authorities concerned are yet to wake up to take up safety measures.
An onion grower was killed when the lorry he was travelling in, transporting the crop to the market, rammed into a roadside tree on the Mysore- Nanjangud National Highway 212 a decade ago.
According to a vehicle census conducted by the national highway authorities in January 2012, the movement of 7,927 vehicles, that includes cars, jeeps, taxis and autorickshaws were recorded on the particular stretch in a span of one week, followed by two-wheelers- 7,194, buses- 2,123 light motor vehicles- 1,846, two axle vehicles (six wheel trucks)- 3,663, multi-axle trucks- 832, bicycles and others- 2,547 and animal driven carts- 127.
