Tata Power has generated 43.386 million units of solar power from its 25 mw facility at Mithapur in Gujarat in 2012-13. Spread over 100 acres, the solar plant uses crystalline silicon photo-voltaic technology, the company said recently. Tata Power, through its 100 per cent subsidiary Tata Power Renewable Energy had signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) for the project with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam, Anil Sardana, Managing Director of the company, said in Ahmedabad.
Since its commissioning and declaration of commercial operations in January 2012, the plant helped reduce an annual average of 37,696 tonne of carbon dioxide, by producing 39,597 mw per year equivalent amount of clean energy. Sardana said Tata Power was committed to generating 20-25 per cent of its total generation capacity from clean energy sources.
