The financial position of Kochi Port is so weak that it is unable to pay salary and pension to its employees.
Following this, the Kochi Port Joint Trade Unions Forums
requested the shipping ministry to rescue the port.
The forums submitted a representation to the visiting Shipping Minister GK Vasan recently. The trade unions forum highlighted several issues before the minister.
These include: waiving of loan interest of the port, providing financial support for maintenance dredging, revision of wharfage rates from Bharat Petroleum Corporation, issues connected with TAMP rates, land policy guidelines of major ports and issues connected with Shipping Corporation of India at Vallarpadam terminal.
