To concretise important roads in the industrial area of MIDC in Navi Mumbai, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) engineering department is to spend Rs 250 crore. The NMMC civic commissioner Abasaheb Jarhad has chalked out a programme, Mission MIDC, to provide modern amenities in the MIDC area, which houses about 3,000 industrial units, including major installations and small scale units.
The Thane-Belapur road has been taken up for concretisation. The Turbhe-Digha road, that runs parallel to TB road, will also be concretised at a cost of Rs 110 crore. Altogether, NMMC will spend about Rs 250 crore for the concretising roads in MIDC area. NMMC stated. The NMMC had concretised the Thane-Belapur road under JNNURM scheme in 2005.
However, interior roads have been riddled with potholes and have become a nightmare for the motorists. Industrialists have been complaining about the pathetic condition of the roads. But MIDC officials have claimed that NMMC is responsible for the upkeep of the roads.
