The Union Civil Aviation Ministry will construct district-level airports in Jharkhand to facilitate inter-district flight services within a year. Such airports will be constructed in Deoghar, Jamshedpur, Dhanbad, Bokaro and Hazaribagh. To construct the airports, the ministry is already in talks with the agencies concerned. Presently, all these districts have helipads or small airports.
The Ministry would not seek any funds from the State government but the State will have to provide the land required for the district airports. The State government would have to ensure security for the airports. The Centre is to send a survey team of experts from the civil aviation department to take stock of the probability of expansion of these aerodromes.
Jharkhand Passengers' Association (JPA) has been demanding the government to construct airports at these existing aerodromes in the districts.
