In Kozhikode's Beypore Port security would further be strengthened with the operation of the luggage scanner by mid-September. The Department of Ports had bought the scanner, along with several other surveillance instruments.
The government has taken several efforts to tighten security at minor ports in Kerala. The total amount spent for enhancing security at the port, including purchase of luggage scanner, night vision binoculars and vehicle barrier system, was Rs 2 crore, said Abraham V Kuriakose, the port officer.
