The Maharashtra government has approved the Pune metro rail project on September 30. The project is estimated to cost Rs 10,183 crore and is expected to be completed by 2021. Ten per cent of the funds for the project will come from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), 20 per cent each from the State and Central governments and the rest 50 per cent will be raised from the private companies.    This was disclosed by the State Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan in Pune.    Keeping in view of the recurring delays in the case of Mumbai Metro Rail Project in public private partnership (PPP), the Maharashtra government has decided against going for PPP in the Pune Metro rail project. The first 16.59 km of the Pimpri-Chinchwad and Swargate metro rail route will be part elevated and part underground. Another 14.92 km of the Vanaz to Ramwadi corridor will be developed and will be elevated.
