Tamil Nadu is likely to get an additional 617 mw of electricity from Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) before March 2014, if the ongoing works at the two new power projects are to be completed as expected, NLC CMD B Surendar Mohan. He said this while addressing the media here on April 1 about the performance and the future plans of NLC, the Navratna Company.
Expansion of Unit-I of the thermal power station-II (TPS-II) is likely to generate power by this December and Unit-II by January 2014. Tamil Nadu will get 230 mw of power from the TPS-II expansion project and the on-going Neyveli Tamil Nadu Power (NTPL) TPS at Thoothukudi, will provide another 387 mw to the State. The NTPL project is expected to be commissioned by March 2014. In total, the State will get an extra 617 mw, he added.
If everything goes well as per the plan, at the end of 13th plan, NLC will have a total lignite mining capacity of 38.85 million tonne per annum (MTPA) compared to present capacity of 30.60 mtpa. NLC’s power generation capacity will be about 11,195 mw against the present capacity of 2,740 mw,” he noted.
