JSPL starts trial production at Oman facility

Jindal Steel and Power (JSPL) has started trial production at its plant in Oman (Jindal Shadeed) almost five months ahead of schedule. The plant has started production of hot briquetted iron (HBI) on December 5.

Jindal Shadeed installed a 1.5 million tonnes per annum of gas-based HBI plant at Sohar Industrial Port area of Sohar, Oman. This facility will support the demand for steel in the Middle East and North African countries.

The facility is engineered by Kobe Steel of Japan and Midrex of the US. This is also the same technology JSPL will be using in its Orissa facility.

JSPL, through its 100 per cent subsidiary Jindal Steel & Power (Mauritius), Mauritius (JSPLM) had acquired Shadeed Iron & Steel Co. LLC (Shadeed), a company incorporated under the laws of the Sultanate of Oman, in July this year for $500 million.
