The road widening project in Cox Town at Bangalore hit land acquisition hurdle with the principal of Clarence School refusing to handover the playground needed for widening the project.
While the school principal claims the land for its playground on Sundermurthy Road has been given to the school on 'permanent lease', Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagar Palika (BBMP) is divided on this. Even as one set of officials said the road is up for widening, field engineers clearly deny any plans.
BBMP's survey on leased out properties shows the lease period lapsed in 2009 after 60 years. The survey also shows that the application to renew the lease was submitted in August 2008 but has been pending till July 2010 and lease documents have not be renewed and issued to the school, which has 2000 students.
School authorities filed a complaint with Pulakeshinagar police station after local MLA S Raghu allegedly entered the playground to bulldoze the compound wall.
