Solar lights for naxal-hit Agumbe area in Karnataka

In Karnataka's Agumbe area, affected by Naxals' extremism, the State government is planning to provide solar lights to the people. As giving electricity to each house will become a costly affair, the State government is to install solar lights to residential areas in Ulmadi, Makodu, Hemmane, Kademane, Hosangadi, Tallurangadi, Hosagadde, Balehalla and Mallandur in Augumbe region.

Each LED solar light would cost approximately Rs 23,000. Tender process will be completed in a couple of days and work will start within a month, official sources said. Zilla Panchayat CEO Sanjay Bijjur told a newspapter. Providing solar lights will ease the problem. Illegal activities happening during night could be checked, he added. SP Raman Gupta submitted the proposal to the DC based on the police report.

The survey has been completed and the process will start soon, he added. DC MV Vedamurthy on directed the MESCOM officials to provide streetlights in some villages.
