For facilitating skill development in India, the Tata Group and the UK India Business Council (UKIBC) will collaborate in bringing together relevant organisations. A memorandum of understanding between the two was signed in this regard. The plan will initially include projects in Odisha and Mumbai for replicable skills training across India.
An official said that the agreement would include a greenfield project in Odisha entailing a world-class skill development institute under the 'hub and spoke model.'
Other brownfield projects in Mumbai with value-added interventions in vocational training providers to enhance employability of vocational students drawn from the bottom of the pyramid are also on the anvil.
The initiative will test and evaluate a range of innovative approaches to the development of skills and employability, particularly pioneering e-learning approaches. The Tata Group is one of the largest manufacturers in the UK, with 19 companies and a 50,000-strong work-forces. The group’s combined revenues from its UK operations were over £20 billion in 2011-12.
