Media reports indicate that the Chennai Municipal Corporation may issue fresh tenders for storm water drains project across several areas in the city.
The civic body plans to invite fresh tenders as it intends to cancel the ongoing contracts for these projects because of several reasons.
Reports indicate that the corporation may terminate the contract for the Adyar watershed region and the region around the central Buckingham canal because of delay.
Serac Infra Structure Project, which bagged the 46.92 crore contract in the Adyar water shed area in November 2010, managed to finish only 35 percent of the work instead of 85 percent expected of it.
Contract for the micro drains leading to the Jafferkhanpet Canal, MGR Canal and Guindy Industrial Estate Canal may be terminated as the firm is not willing to continue.
But locals are not enthused by the plan to invite fresh tenders as it would further delay the work. The deadline for the 814.88-crore project under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) was extended till June 2013 after the civic body failed to complete work by December last.
If the project is not carried out on time, then residents of Anna Nagar, Teynampet, Kodambakkam, Adyar, Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar and Ambattur may face a tough time during rainy season, reports suggest.
