With the resolution of disputes between the power major NTPC and Eastern Coalfields, the latter resumed full supply of coal to the former's Farakka power plant in West Bengal and Kahalgaon plant in Bihar.
Earlier, Eastern Coalfields, an arm of Coal India (CIL), reduced supply of coal to NTPC after the latter stopped payment to the former citing poor quality of coal.
Following this, senior officials from power and coal ministries intervened and resolved the issue amicably.
It was agreed that Eastern Coalfields would carry out joint sampling of the coal it is supplying to NTPC. Now, ECL started supplying full quantity of coal at least from the Rajmahal mines (in Jharkhand) and it is conducting joint sampling of the coal quality at both ends - the loading point as well as at the power stations of NTPC, reports indicate.
Although there is still some difference on the quality of the coal supplied from Ranigunj (in West Bengal), both the companies agreed to resolve it though joint sampling.
Eastern Coalfields supplies around 12 rakes every day from its Rajmahal mines, while another four are supplied from the Ranigunj mines. In all, the company supplies 56,000-64,000 tonne of coal per day to Farakka and Kahalgaon. Both the companies may enter into fresh coal supply agreement, reports indicate.
