State High-Level Clearance Committee (SHLCC) in Karnataka provided an in-principle approval to 38 projects with an investment of Rs 138,322.71 crore. The proposals include Arcelor Mittal’s integrated steel plant with a capacity of six tonne per annum along with a 750 MW captive power plant. Bijapur, Bagalkote and Bellary have been identified for 4,000 acres land for the plant. South Korean Posco has proposed to set up a six tonne per annum steel plant with a 400 MW captive power plant at Rs 32,336 crore either in Bellary or neighbouring districts. Cement manufacturer Lafrage would invest Rs 1,500 crore for setting up its cement plant and 43 MW thermal power plant in Gulbarga.
Reliance (Relogistics) will lay 455 km of gas pipeline worth Rs 6,796 crore through Chennai-Bangalore-Mangalore and GAIL will lay 746 km of gas pipeline worth Rs 4,544 crore from Dhabol to Belgaum and Bangalore. Shell has proposed to set up R&D centre worth Rs 1,376 crore in Bangalore.
Zuary Fertilisers and Chemicals will set up 11.55 million tonne per annum urea plant in Belgaum at Rs 4,565 crore, an integrated steel plant to be set up at Rs 20,000 crore in Bagaklote by Surya Vijayanagar Steels and Power Ltd, oil refinery project at Rs 8,655 crore in Dakshina Kannada by Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd, Tata Elexi to set up a a Rs 486 crore hardware design and development facility near International Airport and an IT expansion unit by Wipro at Rs 477 crore near international airport.
