Statue of Unity project gets Turner as consultant

The Indian arm of Turner Project Management is the consultant for the Rs 2,500 crore Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's statue project in Gujarat.  Turner worked on the world's tallest building, the Burj Khalifa of Dubai.    The planned statue of Sardar Vallabhbai Patel is to be known as 'Statue of Unity.' As the Union Home Minister, Patel united India by merging of small states like Hyderabd's Nizam state, into the Union government.    Also, part of the consortium are US-based Michael Graves & Associates Inc and the India arm of Germany's Meinhardt Group.    Now the foundation has been laid to the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's statue - to be the world's tallest. The statue is to come in a small rocky island in the middle of the Narmada riverbed and facing Gujarat's Sardar Sarovar Dam is seeing a lot of activity.    The first phase of the statue's project, for which bids have already been invited, is estimated to cost around Rs 2,063 crore. This phase will involve construction of the main statue, a bridge connecting the statue to the river bank and reconstruction of the 12-km road along the bank. The total cost of the project is estimated to be Rs 2,500 crore.    At present, global tenders are being invited till November 30. After evaluation of these, the work will be allotted on the statue project, Gujarat government said.
